Let’s build a simple speaker

11.02.2010 18:20, Posted in , 0 comments, 0 pingbacks

Today I will present a simple speaker, that I made from scratch. It's trivial but sounds really good, unfortunately it has also low power (it's hard to hear).

home made speaker

Used materials and tools:

  • strong or at least big magnet,
  • paper,
  • paper glue,
  • slim, isolated wire (from small, signal transformer),
  • minijack cable (can be extracted from broken headphones),
  • knife and scissors.

Assembling:

  • from paper cut a circle with about 3'' radius,
  • make inductor from wire with about 60-120 wire loops,
  • use knife to scratch glaze from end nodes of inductor,
  • take a glue and stick inductor to paper circle,
  • connect nodes of inductor to minijack cable,
  • put circle on the top of magnet,
  • that's all, you may plug cable to PC or mp3 player and listen =)

Bellow is a sample captured from speaker. I've lost original track, so I can't put it here for compare ;-(
